The world practice shows that a significant potential threat from the use of counterfeit medicines is the loss of public confidence in the treatment and the healthcare system in general. In this case, doubts about the quality of medicines cause people not to visit healthcare institutions, refuse to vaccinate their children or refuse to follow the doctor’s recommendations during treatment, which is harmful to their health.
Aim. To perform the analysis of the current state and problems of fighting the drug falsification with the use of a questionnaire survey of specialists of the State Service of Medicines of Ukraine and its territorial bodies.
Materials and methods. Scientific publications of domestic and foreign authors, as well as the study of the opinion of specialists of the State Service of Medicines of Ukraine and its territorial bodies on the problems of fighting the drug falsification were used in the work. The research was conducted using the methods of questionnaires, systematization and generalization.
Results. According to the results of the All-Ukrainian questionnaire survey of specialists – employees of the State Service of Medicines of Ukraine and its territorial bodies the main characteristics of the current state of the distribution of counterfeit drugs in Ukraine, such as the level of counterfeit (up to 5 %), factors contributing to the drug falsification, the main signs and groups of falsified drugs, have been determined. The main problems that prevented more efficient identification of counterfeit drugs have been identified; they are the need to improve pharmaceutical legislation in the fight against the distribution of counterfeit drugs, the lack of funding and low wages of civil servants of regulatory authorities.
Conclusions. The study has allowed us to characterize the current situation and identify the main problems concerning the spread of counterfeit drugs in Ukraine, as well as determine the most effective ways and measures to detect them.
