Conceptual foundations of partnership relations in pharmacy in the context of shared values and sustainable development

Abstract

The relevance of this research is to systematize the partnership relation provisions, determine their features and trends in pharmacy, and correspond to the Creating Shared Value (CSV) concept and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Aim. To analyze and generalize current forms, benefits, existing risks, and trends of horizontal and vertical partnership relations in pharmacy aimed at achieving shared values and ensuring compliance with the SDGs.

Materials and methods. Data from scientific literature, legislative and regulatory documents, and online media sources were used. The methods employed include the content analysis, system-analytical method, integrated and system approaches, structural-logical analysis, generalization, comparison, and grouping.

Results and discussion. The significance, essence, current features, and trends of partnership relations as types and business forms of activity were analyzed. Social partnership was highlighted as one that most corresponds to the specific nature of the pharmaceutical sector. The influence of general business trends and public interests on partnership relations in pharmacy was demonstrated. Characteristics and examples of partnerships in the international stage and the Ukrainian pharmaceutical market were given. The importance of the Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) system in building partnership relations was shown. The correspondence of pharmaceutical partnerships with the CSV concept and the SDGs, which form the basis of the FIP Strategic Plan 2025–2030, was determined.

Conclusions. The research has demonstrated that partnership relations are a promising form of the vertical and horizontal interaction among government bodies, pharmaceutical manufacturers, distributors, pharmacies, and patients. They are based and developed on the principles of human-centricity, compliance with international standards, innovation, digitalization, the ecosystem approach, and the involvement of the educational and scientific potential, etc. The content of partnership relations corresponds to the CSV concept, the SDGs, as well as to the general strategic directions defined by the International Pharmaceutical Federation.
