Aim. To assess the state of the Ukrainian pharmaceutical market for azithromycin drugs used to treat infection diseases in children, including pertussis.
Materials and methods. The marketing analysis of azithromycin drugs was conducted by the method of monthly monitoring of the range, average wholesale prices, social and economic availability coefficients (cost liquidity (Cliq), adequacy of the population solvency (Ca.s), availability (A) according to the resource “Program complex “Apteka” (Pharmacy)” (http://pharmbase.com.ua/) for 2015 and 2017.
Results. It was found that by December 2017 products of foreign manufacture were dominated (66 %) among azithromycin drugs: the share of Russian manufacturers was 23 %, Israeli – 22 %, Slovenian – 18 %. Among the domestic producers of azithromycin the Ukrainian-Spanish company Sperko Ukraine and KMP (by 20 %) represented the largest number of these products. By dosage forms, 98 % of drugs were for oral use: tablets (45 %), powders for suspensions (31 %), and capsules (22 %). The price analysis of azithromycin drugs in the form of capsules (250 mg, No. 6) and powders for suspensions revealed a wide range of wholesale prices. Among the packs of capsule drugs the cheapest domestic generics were: Azithromycin-KP, Red Star – 24.63 ± 0.22 UAH and Azithromycin-Astrapharm – 24.94 ± 0.22 UAH, and among the powders for suspensions there was also domestic Azimed® 200 mg/5 ml, KMP (18.53 ± 0.7 UAH per 1 DDD).
Conclusions. The assessment of the social and economic availability of azithromycin drugs by monitoring liquidity ratios, adequacy of solvency, availability makes it possible to consider them financially affordable for the average family in Ukraine with a pertussis sick child. At the same time, the analysis of dosage forms has revealed a significant lack of pediatric dosages of J01FA10 group.
