Aim. To study the foreign economic activity of the pharmaceutical sector in Ukraine.
Materials and methods. The statistical, analytical, comparative and logical methods, as well as the data of statistics on foreign trade activities of the pharmaceutical sector in Ukraine were used in the study.
Results. The dynamics of the foreign trade of Ukraine with pharmaceutical products has been analyzed, the significant dependence of the domestic pharmaceutical market on imports and the buildup of a negative balance have been revealed. At the same time, the dynamics of the major indicators of foreign trade activities in the sphere of the pharmaceutical sector in Ukraine is characterized by the tendency to reduce the import volumes. The main importers of medicines at the Ukrainian pharmaceutical market are Germany, India, France and Italy. The Ukrainian pharmaceutical products are mainly exported in the CIS countries, namely Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Belarus and Russian Federation. The integral indicators of foreign trade activities in the sphere of the pharmaceutical sector of Ukraine have been studied; they also indicate a decrease in the rate of growth of exports and imports of pharmaceutical products and the need to develop appropriate measures for its improvement.
Conclusions. Summarizing the above it can be argued that today the pharmaceutical sector of Ukraine is the most important direction of development of the domestic economy, but in terms of the foreign economic activity it is import dependent. Therefore, the questions to increase its export capacity and establish foreign economic relations in order to improve the state of the pharmaceutical sector in general, and the activity of Ukrainian companies at the pharmaceutical market in particular are relevant.
